How's Your Heart? Part 3
How are you doing in evaluating yourself for your heart risk? These final 2 pointers are centered on lifestyle in
this 3rd post on the heart this week. We'll also review the supplements suggested.
9. Get moving. Physical inactivity is a risk factor for developing heart disease. About 60% of adults don't have the recommended regular physical activity. Of those, 25% are not at all active. More and more children also fall into the sedentary category, thanks to TV and the Web. If you're glued to the TV, you'll be interested in this: "People who watched TV at least 4 hours a day were 80% more likely to die of heart disease than those who watched less than 2 hours a day." (Taken from USA Today, 2/1/2010.)
Try to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week. Why? It'll help lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, control your weight, reduce anxiety and improve your blood circulation. Also, check with your doctor if you have a chronic health problem or have not been active in a long time.
10. Take time to de-stress. When you experience stress, your body reacts in a "fight or flight" mode. Stress hormones are released, increasing your blood pressure, heart rate and blood glucose. Your body is flooding you with energy - only you don't need it if you are reacting to a deadline you're trying to make, sitting at your desk. Or the stress reaction could be from nasty comment on the train or an argument with a co-worker. Chronic stress is tough on your body. It slows digestion, weakens the immune response - and increases the risk of heart disease and other chronic conditions. What can you do? Rethink your habits if you smoke, drink or eat to excess - and learn to say "no" if you too readily agree to get involved in projects that you later regret. Learn some new habits: de-stress activities such as exercise, meditation, relaxation techniques. They may save your life!
Let's review the Shaklee supplements that will help: Vita-Lea or Vita Lea Gold (multi) or Vitalizer (vitamin strips), Cinch Inch-Loss weight management products, Vita-D3, OmegaGuard, Vita-C, Vita-E, Vivix, CarotoMax, FlavoMax, Shaklee Fiber Plan, CoQHeart. The Vitalizer strips include some of the supplements above, such as Vita D-3, OmegaGuard, Vita-C, Vita-E, CarotoMax - and others. There are 80 nutrients in all.
