Just What Does It Take to Be Climate Neutral?

In celebrating Earth Day, let's remember that in the year 2000 Shaklee became the first company in the world to be certified as Climate Neutral.  What does that mean?  Shaklee "totally offset its greenhouse gas emissions, resulting in a net-zero impact on the environment."

How do you do that?  There's a lot to it, but one portion is to offset greenhouse gas emissions with environmental projects.  Here they are:
1.  Shaklee converted boilers in the Portland School District from oil to natural gas.
2.  Shaklee sponsored a rural electrification project in Sri Lanka and India to replace kerosene lamps and diesel generators with solar photovoltaics that reduced greenhouse gas emissions and improved health for rural-dwelling families.
3.  Shaklee supported the construction of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe Wind Turbine Project, the first large-scale Native American owned and operated wind turbine.
4.  Shaklee supported a project to convert San Bernardino County school buses from petroleum-based diesel  fuel to biodiesel fuel formulated from recycled cooking oil.

Happy Earth Day on the 22nd - and all year long!
