Be Heart Smart! Part 1

In the last 2 months, 3 people we know have had strokes.  Only one of them is doing well in recovering.  Knowing the threat that strokes and heart attacks pose makes me more determined than ever to get the word out.  Heart disease and stroke are still the #1 and #3 causes of death in the U.S.  What can you do to give yourself better odds?

1.) Work on your weight.  Two giant risk factors in cardiovascular health are obesity and diabetes.  Both are rising dramatically.  One helper is the Shaklee line of excellent Cinch products for weight control.

2.)  Eat a balanced diet.  Eat from all of the food groups, but concentrate on increasing vegetables, fruits and high fiber grains.  Be sure you get a good share of protein, whether it's soy, chicken, turkey, fish, etc.  Think about limiting meat to one serving a week.  Avoid processed meats and sausages.

3.)  Drop the deadly habits.  If you chug down soft drinks, taper off.  Try to drink more water.  If sweets and/or salty processed foods call your name, find substitutes that are healthier like Cinch Snack Bars or veggies.  If you smoke, set a goal to stop.  If you drink liquor, wine or beer to excess, start to cut down.
