New! A Prenatal/Postnatal Women's Supplement

Recently Shaklee studied the women's vitamin market, consider-ing whether to change their premiere Vita-Lea with Iron supple-ment. Mayo Clinic said, "Prenatal vitamins typically contain more folic acid and iron than do standard multivitamins."
Shaklee felt more was needed. After careful study of the health literature, Shaklee concluded that folic acid and iron were not enough. Both Vita-Lea with Iron (#20289) and Vitalizer for Women (#20283) have been reformulated. They are now desig-nated as prenatal and postnatal supplements because of three major improvements. Those are: Folate (B9), Iron and Iodine.
We'll start with Folate or Folic Acid and talk about the other two
in the next post.
Let's look at the science. In the early 1900s, low Folate in the blood was linked to miscarriages and neural tube defects (NTDs). Almost half of all pregnancies are a surprise to mom, which means that the infant's neural tube can be well into development and could be compromised by the time she is aware. The neural tube is a longitudinal dorsal tube that eventually gives rise to the brain and spinal cord. So it is critical to have enough Folic Acid in the system as soon as a woman is pregnant. This
is one reason that a younger woman needs to take a well-designed supplement. If she does have a surprise pregnancy, then her body is ready.
Watch for our next post about the new women's supplements.
