More (#3) on a New Women's Supplement from Shaklee

The picture was taken in May, 1966 in Riverdale, N.Y. when I was holding our oldest daughter, Lynn. She was just days old. I'm not sure if she is yawning or crying.  Sure wish I'd known about Shaklee's supplements back then!

We've discussed two other changes in Vita-Lea in the October posts to this blog:  Folic Acid (B9) and Iron. The third nutrient change in Vita-Lea Iron and in Vitalizer Women is in Iodine.

Vita-Lea Iron contains 200 mcg of Iodine.  This amount falls between the 220 mcg recommended by the Institute of Medicine and the 150 mcg advised by the FDA.  Iodine deficiency can cause hypothydroidism during pregnancy.  It has been linked to increased risk for serious problems:  pre-eclampsia, preterm birth, miscarriage and prolonged neonatal jaundice.

Women who are pregnant, wish to become pregnant or are nursing should also try to eat a healthy diet.  That means fruits, vegetables, fiber, low-fat protein and healthy fats. Many doctors do recommend supplements in addition to a good diet because it is hard to take in everything needed for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

In case you are wondering if other women can take Vita-Lea Iron or Vitalizer Women (#20283), the answer is that they can.  Vita-Lea Iron comes in 60 tablets (#21296), 120 tablets (#20288) and 240 tablets (#20289).
