REV UP THAT BRAIN! - #3
In a Steven Chaney (PhD) article on the brain that we looked at last time, Chaney ended by suggesting a good diet, plenty of exercise - and also Ginkgo Biloba, B-Complex and antioxidant supplements.
Another study, this one from McMaster University, focused on mental acuity and physical capacity, using mice. 1) "In the non-supplemented mice, mitochondrial energy production dropped to 46% by the end of the first year, while the supplemented group exhibited a remarkable 56% increase in mitochondrial activity with a similarly significant gain in their physical activity levels. Not bad for aging mice!"
2) "When examining brain tissue, they found that the supplemented mouse brains had significantly less free radical damage - clear evidence that this nutrient cocktail provided dramatic protection for brain health." The article in Healthquest went on to say that the following supplements would "reproduce these impressive results" if taken daily: Vitalizer Gold, CorEnergy, CoQHeart, Mental Acuity. Vitalizer Gold comes in a box of 30 daily supplement strips, each strip containing 80 nutrients. CorEnergy (Ginseng and Cordeceps) increase the oxygen availability to cells. CoQHeart energizes every cell. Mental Acuity contains Ginkgo Biloba and B-vitamins, resulting in better memory and decision-making as well as lower homocysteine levels.
In addition, the article suggested two other supplements on a less frequent basis. They are: Garlic Complex, Stomach Soothing Complex. ( I'd add Vivix too.)
The editor of Healthquest, Dr. Frank Painter, also mentioned that with the millions of Americans who are diabetic (24 million) or prediabetic (estimated 57 million), the following supplements should also be added for prevention: Glucose Regulation Complex, Vivix, Vita-D. The first of these, GRC, is excellent for blood sugar control. It contains chromium polynicotinate, alpha lipoic acid, banaba leaf and vanadium. Vivix contains 12 unique polyphenols combined with pure resveratrol - a powerhouse for health benefits. Vita-D3 is essential for the endocrine system. Lack of Vita-D is associated with several diseases, such as MS, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and schizophrenia. Hmmm - both dementia and schizophrenia have appeared in my family in the past. How about yours?
