"O" is for OMEGAguard
So what have fatty fish done for us lately? Much to my surprise, those salmon, sardines, mackerel and anchovies are very busy making us even healthier. Woo-hoo!
Twenty or thirty years ago, do you recall hearing about how Eskimoes ate a lot of fat (fatty fish), but had excellent heart systems? Back then fat was the villain and carbs were the heroes of our meals...My, how things change! That's when eating Essential Fatty Acids from fish and fish oil came into the nutrition spotlight.
Yes, fish oil is helpful to the heart and cardiovascular system. It decreases inflammation and arrhythmia. That's still true, but the omega-3's do so much more!
According to a recent Shaklee Hotline CD, there's a wealth of other ways omega-3's can help us. A Finnish study verified that the omega-3's increase HDL (the good cholesterol). Fish oil also counteracts mental stress. Compared with olive oil, omega-3's were much more effective at blunting the stress response.
In a January, 2014 report, people with higher levels of omega-3's had less brain shrinkage
