Your Gut and Your Brain, More Closely Connected Than We Thought Part 1
Every once in a while I happen upon on a book that I think you would find helpful. Brain Maker by Dr. David Perlmutter is one of those. If that name sounds familiar, he wrote Grain Brain, which I recommended several years ago.
Why would you want to read at least part of Brain Maker? It deals with many health issues that can be helped by following Perlmutter's advice.
Just a part of the list he mentions: ADHD, Asthma, Autism, Allergies, Diabetes, Overweight and Obesity, Frequent Colds or Infections, High Blood Pressure, Intestinal Disorders (Crohn's, Celiac Disease, Irritable Bowel), Painful Joints and Arthritis, Extreme Menstrual and Menopausal Symptoms, Skin Problems such as Acne and Eczema.
So what's this about? It deals with your "microbiome" and its connection with your brain. What is it? The microbiome houses a huge amount of organisms, "roughly a hundred trillion invisible creatures - microbes." Scientists say there are 10,000 species of microbes. Are they good or bad for you? Both! The way you eat does influence what kind of bacteria you have and does help or hinder your health.
If you are concerned with a certain issue, such as overweight/obesity, but you don't feel you have time to read a whole book, then you might consider reading the first 3 or 4 chapters plus the pages stated in the index under "obesity." Even better, of course, is to read his whole book. You will see another post on this subject soon.
